Ron Hockett grew up in the Chicago area and while still in high school had jammed on
different occasions with Bud Freeman, Bobby Hackett, Peanuts Hucko, Eddie Condon and Jimmy McPartland. He worked with George Brunis a the 1111 Club in
Chicago and played gigs with Dave Remington, the Salty Dogs and Franz Jackson. He toured the Orient with Frank Assunto and the Dukes of Dixieland.
After graduation from Princeton, he joined the U.S. Marine Band in Washington, DC, as principal saxophonist and clarinet soloist.
For the next 29 years he led the double life of head reedman at the White House and free-lance musician around D.C. He is currently celebrating his tenth
year (time flies) as the clarinetist in Jim Cullum's band in San Antonio.
He can be heard weekly on FM radio and the Internet on the popular "Riverwalk" Jazz series. His first CD as leader,
"Finally Ron" was released recently on the Arbors label.
